Why we actually exist.
KinderGPT offers children aged 4 to 14 protected, moderated access to the world of generative AI, with a clear focus on safety, educational value, and age-appropriate entertainment. The platform was designed in collaboration with educators and psychologists to provide age-based support: from initial curious questions to creative projects.
Technically, we rely on infrastructure hosted in Germany that complies with the GDPR and encrypted chats. Content is secured via multi-level filters and moderation. Sensitive topics are detected, kept within age-appropriate limits and referred to adults when needed. Parents remain in control: time limits, themed rooms, and transparency regarding usage are integral components.
KinderGPT runs on self-hosted open-source models, on our own servers in Germany. No US cloud, no data flowing to model providers, no training on your data. The goal is not to replace caregivers, but to encourage curiosity, support learning moments, and safely build media literacy.

What ages is KinderGPT for?+
We have age levels for 4–7, 8–10 and 11–14. Each with its own vocabulary, topics, safety levels.
Will my child see ads?+
No. We show no ads - neither in the free nor in the Premium tier. KinderGPT is not ad-funded.
What is the parent chat?+
As a parent you get your own GDPR-compliant chat built on our secure infrastructure: the same data-protection guarantees as for your child, but for your own questions around parenting, school and everyday life.
Does KinderGPT replace professional advice?+
No. Neither the children's chat nor the parent chat replaces medical, psychological, legal or pedagogical advice. For acute crises, health questions or child-welfare concerns, please contact specialised services, doctors or emergency lines. KinderGPT is built as a safe AI assistant for everyday questions, not as an advisory service.
What happens with sensitive questions?+
KinderGPT doesn't play the therapist. When difficult topics come up, such as bullying, grief or thoughts of self-harm, it tells your child immediately that they should speak with a real person now: with you or a trusted adult.
Where is the data stored?+
On servers in Germany, operated under German data-protection law. We don't pass data to OpenAI, Anthropic or any other model provider, and we don't transfer it to third countries. Your child's data is not used for ads or for training third-party models.
Is ChatGPT actually running behind the scenes?+
No. KinderGPT is our own AI, which we operate ourselves on servers in Germany. It's based on open technology that we have extended with child-appropriate safeguards such as our own moderation. Your child's data is not shared with any model provider and is not transferred to third countries.
My child shouldn't be using AI at all. Why should I even look at KinderGPT?+
That's a fair question. Our answer: your child will encounter AI. The only question is which one. If the first experience happens in a vetted, German, ad-free environment instead of in ChatGPT or other US apps, we've done our job.
